Guys I've ordered a rep key off the bay with a view to refreshing one of my existing fobs. I've read all the threads and think i know what's involved but would i right in thinking that as long as I don't wreck the transponder chip on removal I should be good to just swap the internals, and existing blade etc without the need for vcds?!

Just want too confirm before I start lol

I replaced my key with a cheapo one from ebay, just swapped the key part and little part inside the fob (immobilizer) and no problems.

Nice one, what did you use to get the chip out?
I had a tiny flat head screwdriver, I mean tiny (thin), with a little encouragement it just popped out - obviously you need to be careful and maybe I was lucky but no problems at all. The fob it went in didn't hold the chip in place securely so I had to use some sellotape to secure it but it's inside the fob so you'd never see it - could have used glue but why bother in case you want to ever change it again.

These cheapo ones off the bay, do they look & feel as good as the OEM ones, when you see how cheap they are you can't help thinking they must be nasty bits of Chinese crap.
Mine was fine too. Can't remember who on ebay I got it from but they all looked the same.

Wee blast with a oxy acetylene torch lads, to soften the plastic round edges of the transponder chip then just pull it out. Simples as the meerkats say.
hmmmm shall i use my blue torch or my red torch ?! lol......I didnt have one so l i cut a thin strip of plastic a few cm long and slid it under the chip then pinched the ends with needle nosed pliers and gently pulled......took about 2 secs

Keys now done.....looks mint for less than a tenner
