Evening,

My Mk4 R came with VW's tyre weld etc but I actually found a slim 18" spare wheel in my attic.

Does anybody have the piece of hard foam designed to sit around the spare wheel that they no longer require?

Thanks

I think you're referring to some foam bits that never ever came with UK R32s

UK R32's came with a massive one piece foam that took up the entire space where the wheel would normally sit.....

I tihnk it was TT's and S3's that has the smaller bits of foam that wedged up the gaps around the spare wheel .

Have a look on graeme's website (from Australia) for better info .

LEt me see if I can dig up the pics for u?

Just don't like the idea of tyre weld, and now that I've found this 18" spare I feel compelled to use it lol.
I ran about 300 miles in my last car with Tyreweld. Nothing wrong with it at all. Just tell they tyre fitter you've used it when hes replacing the tyre. I had a phone call from a grumpy tyre fitter coz he had shitty foam all over his machine haha

Ah I see, thanks guys.

I thought some UK R's came with a spare wheel, or did VW cheap out on all of them?
mk4's all came with that massive foam cut out, and all the usual tools (inc blue air pump+ bottle of get you home sealent)

I've got a spare 18inch TT space saver too - but I've now taken it out (along with the back seats) as all the weight seems to add up to quite a noticeable difference.

When I emptied the boot and took the rear seats out the Bora the difference was depressingly noticeable! Handle so well and absolutely flew.

Approx 19kg for the rear/ back rests (uprights) (the bum bits weigh next to nothing)

6.6kg and 12.3kg for the left and right back rests

The front seats weigh a hell of a lot more for sure.

Definatly the car stops much better without the rear seats in place, so that small 19kg saving must make a difference. I bet you'd save a massive amount just by changing the front seats, because they weigh a hell of a lot more than the backs
