Agree with that, these cars can burn through the same amount of petrol to the tax you'll save a month in an hour or less if driven hard. Buy the right car on condition not year, they are all old cars now. There were always very few low tax cars anyway unless you look at imports from Japan, which 'can' be a minefield in itself.
I would definitely prefer one in the lower tax bracket but first & foremost it needs to be a clean & well maintained example. Once I’ve exhausted my search then I will look at the higher tax band too. I did say it must be 5 door for the practicality & I actually prefer the look. I used to own both a 3 door mk4 & high tax band Mk5 back in the day. I need a good daily for the winter whilst the RS is sorn’d & I think the R32 will be perfect.
