mk5 r32 new alarm not working on Jap import

Replaced the alarm siren on my 2006 Jap import mk5 R32 as I thought it could be the cause of my battery drain and wasn't working anyway but I can't get the new part to work either after paying VW 220 quid for the part. Checked the plug with multimeter and there is voltage coming through. VCDS does not have siren deactivated and says "no communication" with alarm siren. Old part was number 1K0951605B and new part is 1K0951605D which I was told by VW was the new part that supercedes the old one. Old and new pictured below. Is there someting about a Jap import that deactivated the alarm that I can't code back with VCDS or am I missing something else? VW won't let me return the new part as I scuffed it trying to remove it as it is a right pig to remove the plug. They want me to bring it in and check for themselves but it's quite a journey to my nearest VW and I don't want them spending any more money on it. I'm really not bothered about habing an alarm and just wanted to solve the battery drain.

Your battery drain will be whatever radio has been fitted, Jap wavebands are different.

I've replaced the head unit and canbus and have checked that so I know it's not that.
