Hi all,

I've got a 2 door MK5 r32 with pretty severe rust on the front and back rocker panels. I have a friend who is an expert welder that is willing to weld new panels in for me. All I can find online for replacement are panels for a 2007 2 door GTI. Are the rockers on the MK5 GTI the same as the ones on the R32? I cant find anything online specifically for the R32, only golfs and GTIs.

Yes, they are. For the panels you hqve a difficult choice. There IS a company that sell just the rockers. But the curvature isn't quite right. I had to force it to fit on my car. But because racecar, it doesn't need to be 100000% true. Vw will sell you metal too. Unfortunately it is the whole side of the car in 2 pieces per side. At $1000 per piece. Or you can cut metal out of a scrap car if you can find good metal.

Either way you go, i hope your friend actually IS an expert welder as you say. I have never encountered such thin metal on a car before.. i warped the snot outta it and it took forever to get back into shape.
