Can you guys post up any known common faults or problems for the MkV as i'm in the process of writing a MkV buyers guide like the one i have for the Mk4

Seems a common question so thought i'd do a thread for newbee's.

Here's a few I've heard about regularly on the forums (not R32 specific)

- Rear Windscreen wiper going a bit erratic (remedy = new motor)
- Wind Noise around front door seals & mirrors (remedy = front door realigned, usually due to dropping a bit)
- Steering grinding / creaking (remedy = new steering rack)
- Leaks found in boot well - (remedy = new rear hatch seals)
- Rattles (remedy = propping)
- (3dr version) runners stop working on seats (remedy = new runners)
- Wing mirrors not poping out/in (remedy = ECU update)
- Windows sometimes have a mind of their own (remedy = ECU update)
- Condensation in lights, esp high rear brake light (remedy = lights replaced or condensation does go away itself if left for a while)

Rear Top mounts, knock/squeak... replaced under warranty

Only prob i've had so far, though it's going in Monday with what sounds like dry front ARB bushes...

Dont know if its a common fault but from my experience i dont have the usual 3 mm gap along my rear hatch edge with the top of the rear bumper and it has had to be booked in to have the bumper dismantled and then reassembled with the appropriate gap along the edge as mine rubs

Mines booked in on sat for sqeeky brakes & about 1million interior rattles so hope it gets sorted or ill be pretty p*ssed

Let me know how you get on. My breaks squeak loads when turning/breaking at low speed.

This is common on a lot of cars not just the R, I've seen brand new Mercs and Porsche's with this.It's an easy fix, albeit annoying!

You bet! had it on my prev 2 Subaru/seat

the only ocasional rattle I found from mine is from the passenger recaro optional seat ! as it has slack in the mechanism therefore if know one is in it rattles sometimes !

Can you show me the area on a picture? sorry to be a pain its just I have one from the parcel shelf area too

Will do, if they dont fix everything I will just take it back again & again tbh. Did that with a previous car & it all got fixed in the end

4 and 6 pots normally do squeak at slow speed on the turn, it's nothing to really worry about, you can rebuild with copper grease normally cures it, well this was all that was needed on my Citroen AX track car which had 4pot brembos form the 406 v6...
