Hi everyone. I got my 2006 MK5 R32 Silver 3
door 115000 miles a couple of weeks ago.
Traveled to Manchester to collect from Essex,
assured by the seller that the condition was as
good as he'd ever seen, I made the epic journey to go and buy the car. It wasn’t quite as good as he described but I could not resist and bought with my heart rather than my head. Even with a list of things to sort out, all these things go to the back of my mind when I start the car and drive away. So looking forward to owning this future classic for a long time to come and sharing my experiences with all of you.

Welcome. What things are on your ‘to do’ list? It might not be bad at all.
air conditioning has a leak (after spending £50 on re gas), rust starting on wheel arches underneath. Getting rear brake pads and possibly callipers if needed changed on Tuesday. Already spent £350 on getting the passenger door lock changed and £150 for a new remote key fob. Managed to fit a new plastic part to both seats to enable the slider to work. Inner boot light doesn’t work. ESP light comes on and off. One of the radiator fans doesn’t work (not sure if it’s related to the air con not working) will be getting the car booked in at a local vet specialist to give me a verdict on if the timing chain tensioners need changing, the dsg is ok and the haldex is ok too. There are other cosmetic things that need addressing too but will come in time. I got the car for £6200 so was prepared to get work done on it. It did have a lot of service history which was good to see but I do think that the last owner may have been a bit of a geezer.

Quite a list but none of them life threatening. Rear pads are cheap and recon callipers ( rear) from somewhere like Autodoc are about £60-70 each . The big expense might just be chains but I would not go into panic mode just yet. And, as you say, at £6200 you have left yourself some room for manoeuvre .

looking at it all as a project. They are becoming classic cars and classic car need tlc to keep going but is always worth the effort and attention needed. Due to the prices increasing all the time I don’t feel that it’s money being wasted too.
