Bit of a pause as the bike racing season is in full swing so busy riding and racing my cycle. Anyway, Verkline subframe back from the powder coaters, along with a pair of Passat front hubs. I know, why more hubs? Alloy is the answer so a couple of kg on unsprung weight saved . View attachment 269436
Hi Andy, I love this build and wanted to ask a question about your Passat front and rear alloy hub upgrade.
Are they a straight bolt on weight saving and are they from a 2008 Passat?
Is there anything else I should be careful of when making the change?
I wanted to replace/refresh my wheel bearings and thought this might be another great upgrade to make at he same time.

Evening over here in Melbourne Andy!
Thanks for you reply and guidance. I think I will go the Audi TT option rather than the Passat for ease of fitment and may be less rear arch issues??
What gen/model TT hubs should I look for?

Update dear reader . Mishimoto radiator that would not seal on the couplings. I had new ones but the were aftermarket ( Febi I think ) that worked fine on the o.e radiator but not on the Mishimoto one . So, one delivery from TPS and £81 later , I had the genuine VAG upper and lower couplings . Tried the Mishimoto rad again and it sealed and held one bar . Result and an interesting lesson .
Next. Front hubs. I have the alloy Passat ones for which I had to make replacement track rod end inserts to suit the TT track rod ends. However, my Audi TT hubs came back from the powder coaters yesterday so you know what is coming next: off with Passat hubs and in with the TT ones. Thankfully my brake adaptors fitted exactly so the only real difference is the lower ball joint mounting position which is significantly lower than the Passat one . That will make some interesting geometry changes but at least I now have full Audi TT steering with no modifications .
And finally the bodyshop sent some photos of the wings, bumper and arches in paint, so they will be ready by early next week. Excitement . 😀
The Passat hubs now join the long list of bits now surplus to requirements, so to be joined by some alloy R32 rear hubs as I have a pair of rear TT ones to fit at some point View attachment 271578 View attachment 271579 View attachment 271580 View attachment 271581 View attachment 271584 View attachment 271583 View attachment 271582
Hi Andy, just to clarify on the best and easiest to fit front and rear alloy hubs for a Mk5. The Passat or TT?
