Hi all,

I'm considering a few mods on my R32 and would appreciate advice from the experts!

I only know APS as a VAG car specialist and was considering going there as I was pleased with their work on my RS4.

There were 3 things I was mainly interested in:

1. ECU remap
2. Miltek Cat-back exhaust
3. Haldex Gen II controller

With respect to the remap, does anyone know if this is a generic remap or specific to the individual car? Would it take any other mods into account, e.g. exhaust, air intake etc. or is it independent of other engine mods.

I was also interested in an upgraded air intake, but can't find anything available for the mkV. Are there any out there? I presume changing the air intake would require a remap to suit the new parameters the car operates under to ensure safe air-fuel ratios etc?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Don't bother modding, just order a Nissan GTR. Oh - you've already done that, OK....

Air intakes are available from Evo Motorsports (in the US), VF engineering (they have agents in the UK), the gucci intake for the R32 is the carbon fibre one from Gruppe M (but is over 350quid). I'm fairly sure there are others too.

Haldex Gen2 is meant to make a huge difference to the cornering feel of the car. (some members on here have it).

Most people seem to go for Revo remaps (see the other threads, I'm not sure if these are generic or not).

There is also a variety of options available from APS (inc cams etc). These are detailed in threads on here. APS R300 Conversion Blog - R32OC | VW Golf R32 Owners Club
I'm sure the owners will come along and post soon.

There are also some heavily modded MkV's on the tyresmoke.net forum.

Hope that helps. :D

Alex, I have an stage 2 APS remap which is to go with the Milltek, and it is customised to your specific car. Ed and the Remap guy (sorry, don't know his name) install the remap, then take the car out for a spin with the laptop still plugged in, and any adjustments are made so that the remap fits your car! Top results IMO and well worth the money.

Come and see Ed tomorrow (Tues, 5th), coz me and Dan will be up there too!!!

Thanks dubzter. I'm loving the R32 and can just sense that this car is capable of a lot more without sacrificing reliability...hence my itch to mod it after having it less than a week!

James, that is very helpful. The Haldex, remap and cat-back sound like what I'll be doing initially.

Matt, great info. I'd love to come down tomorrow but work prevents it unfortunately. I'll probably email Ed to ask about a few bits such as what happens if the dealer reflashes the original map back into the car...e.g post ECU updates? Also, do they raise the rpm limit? Not sure if the R32's top speed is restricted, but also wondered if this is removed during remap?
