Hi guys, just a quick question to see if anyone could shed any light on this? I've got a weird noise coming from the front left of the car, no apologies for the vagueness here, but its like a rubby clunky noise that seems to be at its worst when going slowly over bumps. The car drives and rides like it should but the noise is rather annoying and i'm wondering if anyone would have any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks Scott

Possibly a strut top mount or a bush.

yeah top mount was my thought as well, although my mate has said it could be steering rack?
I think if it were a steering rack there would be other symptoms like heavy steering or groaning.

Only way to find out is to get it up on a ramp and check it out.

You dont need to jack the car up to check top mounts. If like me you have a kind of popping/rubbery taping noise when doing low speed maneuver's then just pop up the bonnet with the engine running and make sure you can see the top of the suspension struts in the engine bay. Turn the wheel. the top of the strut (top mount) should rotate smoothly one of mine does not you can see it sticking as it rotates and the sticking coincides with popping noise. I reckon the bearing has gone....

Cheemp you reckon its worth upgrading to poly ones? Do they lower the car?

Yeah i have the poly ones, they lower the front 10mm. Obviously they are harder wearing and they made a difference to the car for sure. The poly ones creek until they bed in (like all poly) but all has been well after 7 months 11k miles

Ah right, thanks for the info guys, another 10mm down isn't really ideal for me since I can't get over most bumps as it is lol. Ill defiantly have a look at the top mounts tonight and hopefully that's what it'll be

Im putting new suspension all round on mine when it arrives and will replace the top mounts at the same time am i right in saying that the cupra R top mounts are harder wearing but don't affect the ride height of the car.

Yes mate, they're much harder wearing & no they don't affect ride height... Make sure you change the bearings too... Use white spray grease & lube the new ones up well...
