Hi guys i've searched high and low for the answer but no answer as yet. Hope i can describe it well enough for someone to know the issue or have had same issue so here goes.

This noise is like a rattling noise but also a whine. It changes with rpm but only in gear not in nuetral. In neutral no noise is there. Noise is there whether driving straight or turning. Ive recently had wishbone bushes upgraded to powerflex ones and noise is more noticeable. More noticeable in lower gears. The performance of the car isn't effected and no other untoward noises or warnings from the car.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sean

Sorry its an 08 R32. DSG. It only does it on acceleration and dies off when you take your foot off the throttle. Also changes/disappears when car changes gear which points me to transmission side.

Hmmmm, I'm thinking dual mass flywheel. How many miles on it? Any warranty left? Not that VW would replace a FW under warranty as it's a consumable part, but might do you some good will if it's low mileage. Box off job to change it. You'll be without the car for 1-2 days.

Not saying it is 100% that and it's odd it's not there in neutral but rattles in the transmission side of things usually come down to that
Obviously get some 2nd and 3rd opinions before breaking the spanners out as those DSGs can be fickle things. Any mechantronic related fault codes showing up?

Was my first thought DMF but as you agree surely it would happen in neutral? Car has about 75k miles on it and no warranty. I just hope its nothing serious. I'm in Dubai so labour is cheap I'm just not sure of the skill level lol. I'm having it looked at on saturday so i'll let you know what the outcome is.

Thanks CorradoR32

It's definately gearbox noise we had it on the ramp and listened. Sounds like the noise of running cogs but running dry (if that makes sense). Mechanic says that the bushes are just causing the noise to resonate through the casing. With no other adverse effects should i be worried?

Ok guys so i've found my issue. The rear input shaft bearing decided to give up, fortunately its fixable and not a new box. Bearing cost me £22. :-D i may also have mechatronics issues but will be revealed once it's all up and running. These boxes are pretty robust and don't believe that they are always so expensive to repair. The garage wanted to replace my whole box with a used one for £2k but i decided to repair my existing box. Any questions feel free to ask. There's a couple of companies in the uk now doing bits and pieces for these boxes.
