Hi I've recently purchased a mk5 R32 and it seems to over heat alot, being in slow moving the car raced up to 130degrees and I've had to pull over to let it cool down is this a regular problem.??

Many thanks

Blocked thermostat ?

If the fans are working then it can only be the above unless a water way is blocked in the engine ? Or the temp sensors are not working and letting the fans know the engine is warm ?

If it only happens in slow moving traffic, I would suspect the fans are not working.

One thing to note is that the temp gauge on these cars is not linear and is corrected to display 90 degrees between 85 and 105 degrees.

If it's not the fans it could be a sticky thermostat, as Mark says.

It could be the water pump but that tends to result in overheating at higher speeds.

Thanks guys currently stuck in traffic on the edge of London, suspecting that the fans aren't working as temp drops as soon as I can get moving but rapidly heats up once stopped.!! Yay.!!
If the fans were working you would hear them spinning

Also switch it off as soon as you hit traffic you don't want to cook the engine

Also, have the cabin temperature up as hot as you can stand to try and remove heat from the coolant passing through the heater matrix.

I would investigate sooner rather than later as you don't want to warp the head.

I used to have to do this years ago in my 5 turbo as they overheated with the fans working

Just take it back to where you bought it from. If you bought it from a dealer and it develops a fault within 6 months I'm pretty sure that they're obliged to fix it, unless they specifically told you about it before purchase. If it was a private purchase then you're up the creek with no paddle...

G12 plus plus or G13 from VAG dealers mixed 50:50 witb distilled water. It comes in 1.5 litre bottles and costs around £10.
