Hi guys,
Few of you may remember me, i've posted the odd buying question in the past, been working hard to save for an R32 since.

I've contacted the seller of PY53AVG who has his golf up for sale for £5500. Its a blue mk 4 with 90k on the clock and had 6 owners. The wheels need a refurb and looks like it needs a detail other then that looks ok, i offered £5000 which he was happy with but said no lower. The Mot / tax is october, and its just had discs and pads on the front. He's happy for me to arrange an AA check. The problem is the car has NO history and hes only had it 3 months, said he bought it off his mate who had it 4 years and lost his job and that he bought it for his misses but she doesn't drive it.

I was wondering does anyone on here know the car? or owner? and whats everyones thoughts...

Im reluctant to spend £300 on a hpi and AA check if its not in good condition. I've worked had to save 5k so i have to make sure its the right car, with that in mind im not in a rush and im happy to wait. however this could be a good car... couldn't it ?

Thanks

Kev

HPI won't tell you jack, other than outstanding finance and plate changes. Light front end damage is always fixed privately these days as to avoid a CAT C and HPI detection.

Go on your gut instinct and look closely for evidence of paint / bodywork etc. Pay particular attention to the sills as the plastic trims hide damage underneath well. Look at the panel gaps and observe how the doors open and close. You shouldn't have to slam any of the doors to close them.

I'm telling you this so you don't make the same mistake I did. I bought what I thought was a mint low mileage MK4, but on the ramps, I discovered it had been in an accident and wasn't flagged up by HPI.

Personally I would pay the AA or RAC check as they're usually pretty thorough and check things you might not think of.

Sorry to hear that mate! Did the AA / RAC not pick up the accident when you bought the car or didn't have them check it?

Just to add the car also on has one key... is this expensive to get them recoded and a new second key made up ?

Good question. But i doubt he will know the answer to it, if he didn't have it to start with. He just said the car has NO history. but later said there is a load of paper work in a wallet which he will look through and let me know in the morning.

If its too good to be true etc etc etc..

From what you've said, I'd personally walk away. You say you're in no rush so hold out on something else.
