Todays experience of the R32 is the car would not turn over. Then it would, it would go for 3 minutes then cut out on a roundabout. Then after numerous tries and about 2 minutes ot started again and went for another couple of minutes before cutting out.

After repeating this process I have managed to get it home.

No warning signs on dash.

I've just let it idol for 10 mins, it didn't shut down. So I turned it off and restarted. After 21 seconds it shut down again, I waited about 3 mins and it turned over again. Its now just stopped.

Any bright ideas?

Cheers

That I don't know. Guess that's a job for a real man to look at. I'll maybe try get a sparky with multi meter to come and test the battery in the morning and then look to get car booked in if the battery is reading properly.

When the car stops, it just stops. Bit dangerous 😳

First thing to do is check what fault codes are stored. From your description, it sounds like an electrical issue. I've seen those symptoms before and the issue was the crankshaft sensor (engine speed sensor).

So, into the garage the car went today. Nothing picked up on any scans and no visible issues reported.

It drove there fine and I've taken it on a 40 minute drive and it was all fine. The mechanic also ran it for 30 mins.

Guess I'm watching the space until it happens again.

So car last night came back and has same problems. Came to any kind of stop and it cut out. Seems to be idling at 600 rpms when in Drive.

Taken it to the VM specialists Vastech in Durham with the hope they can find out why its being an arse.

It did not conk out once on this journey. But it was a managed trip and I was lucky I only had to stop once at lights.

With an R32 , perhaps as well because they seem able to consume cash in a manner not dissimilar to the way in which they can consume fuel when provoked . Having said that , I went to a track day yesterday and managed 38mpg on the way there . On the track more like 9.

Updated!. So the lads at Vasstech in Durham upon collecting the car have not changed the crank shaft sensor. They said they put a new one on and have taken it back off as there was jothing wrong with the old one. They have changed all the plugs and said that was thr cause of the breakdowns. They've ran the car 100 miles and said its fixed. I've done about 40 today and it seems fine. I'll keep watching this space hahaha
