Hello all,
I have the approval to get an R when the current TDi passes away. My current car is a Cordoba TDi130 and it has been utterly abused by me for all of its miserable 10 years of oil burning life (as all Seats should be). I used to do a lot of miles (100k in the first 2 years) and I expect it not to see the end of the year out.

So the Wife has given me the approval to get an actual nice car, one I can love, cherish and keep as nicely as we do her's, so an Mk4 R32 4rd manual in anything but silver is what I have my heart set on.

My darling wife has had a Mk1 TT (225) for the last 6 years, which I have maintained, loved and kept running sweetly. So I'm used to working on a Mk4 chassis, just not a 3.2 engine, yet.

I've joined so I can learn what's the common faults and niggles to look out for when purchasing and to because forum owners tend to have the nicest examples for sale. We have been on TT holidays across Europe and I hope that the R forum runs similar driving events that we can join.

I look forward to owning my own R and to learning from you all.

Regards
James

Thanks for all the welcomes, does anybody have or can link me to the service plan for the Mk4 R32?
I know there are variable and fixed servicing options, its more the other parts, like the chain and chain tensioners service life and anything else I'm not aware of yet... I know about the haldex and I'm going for a manual, so that rules out the DGS issues and service.

Servicing is just like most cars. Apart from haldex which needs doing every 2 years or 20,000 miles and costs about 60 quid

According to vw the chain never needs replacing if regularly used and lubricated
