Removing front black reg holder mk5 ?

Want to remove the front black plastic reg plate holder, I can see plastic tabs which I assume cover screws ?

Is this the case can i remove these tabs to reveal screws which will allow me to remove the holder or do I have to access the back of the bumper?

Any help fellas

Thanks for the diagram

I was thinking of just removing the black part and to Velcro stick a metal over the bumper covering the holes to give it a slightly cleaner look.

Get a US spec grille then sell your OEM grille, there fetching good money 2nd hand nowadays
