Do they not slot into the holder correctly? If so i had this problem and i couldnt get the screw cap over the bulb correctly to secure it in place - forcing it in wouldnt have helped and would have broken the unit.

Simple fixs:
- Get a stanley knife and trim 3 of the small nipples off the front face of the bulbs mount - this will allow the fastening cap to fit.

- If required trim a mm off the edges of the bulbs mount so it fits better in the slot (not the same bulb but heres an example of what i mean)

Hope this helps
EDIT - added pics

Don't really want to bodge it together mate. I've just ordered some of the proper Philips D2S 85122 bulbs for £60 for the pair as in the link above! I should have stuck by my normal motto of always spending the money. Will let you know how I get on this time.

Just an update on the Philips bulbs, kind of.....turns out the there's a problem with my headlights that the garage wasn't entirely sure about....delightful. Getting dark and still no headlights! The bulbs are identical to the ones taken out of the car and as far as I know VAG cars have either Philips or OSRAM xenon bulbs in them.

Ah mate good luck with that - they not working at all?

The guy at the garage VAGcom'd my car and reset the auto levelling (which had an error), but none of the rest of the light is throwing a fault. So i'm really hoping the new bulb gets rid of the flicker :)

Only the side lights, not even a hint of light from the dipped beams. Full beams work fine though.

Not able to get the car back in to the garage until Thursday which means I get to go in to work progressively later and come home that little bit earlier every day...every cloud has a silver lining! That and the fact the garage didn't immediately suggest I need a whole new headlamp on each side!

Arent MKVs bi-xenon so your full beam uses the same xenon bulb as the dipped? Unlike the MKIV where they use Halogen bulbs for full beam. Therefore that should count out the bulbs and prob points towards the mechanism that switches between dipped and full? - Could be completely wrong so someone might be able to step in here

Hi all
Just to let you know that I ordered the proper Philips bulbs which fitted perfectly (got them for £60 for the pair on HIDS4U, as above in the thread). This has also fixed the flicked as far as I have seen so far. So always worth changing the bulbs first ! :)

Guys, the cheap ones didnt fit - took them to a garage and he said they were the right ones but badly made and would have to force them in. Therefore I am now ordering SDmac27's ones from HIDS4U Philips D2S bulbs - HID Xenon Replacement for Philips type 85122...
Really? Did you buy them from the link above (£16 bulbs). I bought exactly the same ones for mine and they just fitted straight in without any issues, it took no more than 5 mins to change the pair. I do admit its a bit tricky to get your hand round the back but they fitted straight in. Thats an odd one.

Yeah was wierd. It was a garage (i know the guy very well, does all our cars in the family) and he said that they just didnt fit (or they would but not properly). He said the Philips ones went straight in, no issues at all. The owner of the ebay site got quite arsey when I tried to send back the other ones, I might send him this thread as it seems a couple of others had difficulties!

EDIT - yep same site

Im glad you got it sorted though with the other bulbs, bit of a bummer that the first didnt fit as they are a great price and the light they give out is superb.

Im begining to think that i just got lucky with mine lol.

Im not to sure how you would get a refund off him if he's getting arsey, im guessing the only way would be to open an 'ebay dispute' or a paypal one.

Hi all
There are quite a few threads about Xenon issues. My local garage (i know the guy), quoted me £90 per bulb (slightly cheaper than VW) for the bulbs - which matches the online price for Philips ones - Philips UltraBlue 6000K D2R Xenon HID Upgrade Capsule from Car Bulbs Direct | Free Worldwide Shipping

There are also some that are considerably cheaper... e.g....

Do these look ok as replacement Xenon bulbs?
D2S Xenon HID 6000K bulb for upgrading OEM D2S headlight bulbs to white with blue tint.

There must be a reason why they are so much cheaper?
When it comes to replacement Xenon bulbs for your car's headlights, the price difference between different brands and models can be quite significant. It's essential to understand the factors that contribute to the price variation and consider the quality and reliability of the bulbs before making a decision.
