I figured I'd move over the the correct spot for my Mods I'm doing on my R32. As you guys know I bought it at auction and I'm going through it. Decided while I've got her apart I'd buy some "go-fast" parts and do some mods to make her a bit faster. I'm installing Schrick 264 intake and exhaust cams, High flow cats from USP and an X-Force 3" Stainless cat back sys. Got the engine dropped out on Saturday afternoon in a couple of hours. It's easy. This evening I got the engine & trans split and pulled the valve cover & timing covers. Engine is pretty clean on the inside. It was well maintaned. I'm gonna need a thermostat housing (it was starting to leak a bit) and while I'm in there (because its a bitch to replace in the car if it leaks), I'm going to replace the "crack pipe". Just a good idea, I'd be half assed if I didn't. The dual mass flywheel feels a bit loose so I'm going to replace it as well.

Having a cold one. And for all you Triumph fans out there. Here's one of my other toys. 2002 Trophy 1200. This one was a fixer-upper too. I paid almost nothing for it. Took $1k in parts to get her on the road but, what a sweet bike. only 16k on her.

Great work on the engine. It will be very interesting to see what a difference the cams and exhaust make . By reputation, this engine would seem to be quite hard to tune in its n/a form, but that is only by reputation and not necessarily a fact , hence my curiosity . As for the bike, well, now we are talking . Bikes take ‘motoring’ to another level!

I have 2 others both Harley's. They ride great but they aren't nearly as fun as my Triumph.

I found something when I pulled the timing components off that I didn't like. It came that way from the factory, but I didn't feel any better about it. For some reason VW thought it was O.K. to just leave the retaining ring (P/N: 021 115 033) off of the intermediate shaft on the 2008 3.2L. Every 3.6L I've ever taken apart had a retaining ring on them. I looked high and low and couldn't find one on the US side of the pond. I'm not putting it back together without it because the shaft just floats without it, which can cause issues I don't want. I found a company in France called STR performance that makes them. Here's the link Oil pump shaft retaining wedge for Golf Audi engine VR6 R32 R36 021115033 I ordered one. Lets see how long it takes to get here.

I think that is a great plan. I have been hanging my nose over various forced induction options but now really interested in your N/A route and how it turns out . ( and how the £/$ per hp. works out too)

Well, I got tired of waiting for the part and did what I should've done in the first place. I made one. Took an impression of the bolt pattern, took some more measrements, made a template out of paper, fired up the old Bridgeport 3 axis mill and I made one myself. Fits like a glove!

Lovely mill. The Bridgeport is an excellent piece of kit . And you have drive in all three axes? I have to settle for two ! Nice work by the way and yes, I can see why you got fed up of waiting .

The Bridgeport belongs to the engineering firm I work for, but they let me use it for personal projects because I was the only one who could fix it. It has variable electric drive for the "X" axis but manual for "Y" and "Z". I completely rebuilt the head earlier this year as well as rewired the "X" drive motor system. Works like a champ. Got it all timed up with the Shcrick cams in last night. Gonna install the rest of the parts back on it today and hopefully get it mated with the trans for re-installation.
