I rung my local Volkswagen garage on Saturday to purchase a major service kit and quoted my number plate to my mk4. The bloke in charge then tried informing me that a mk4 r32 did not exist? And that r32s were only produced from 06 plates onwards! It took me about 5 minutes to convince him that they did and I even think he had to whisper to someone else to verify my claim lol anyone else ever had an experience like this?

You'd be suprised how little some of them actually know about the product/brand they are selling!

Even myself as a technician, working with some is a struggle and they just dont understand what you are asking for!

I was in shock at first, couldn't believe what I had heard! Ummm no I didn't lol even though the bloke tried convincing me to have the work carried out there I was always planning on using genuine parts but getting a mechanic I know and trust to do the work.

in holland they had to lift the car up and record the strange sound, and post it to wolksburg in germany
it ended up with that they replaced the dsg box and the flywheels under warenty...

I went to my local vw garage and they told me r32's where not awd and did not have a haldex when I asked how much to change the oil and filter

All sorts mate............ not knowing they exist, not knowing that have AWD, wrong oils, no idea of the 6463 ECU update, ignorance of the coil pack recall....

You name it the list goes on!

I only go to them for Oil Changes and the basic 10k inspection service which they price match. This avails you the stamp, and the VW goodwill should anything serious go wrong. Everything else I have done at a specialist.

Hmmmmm, that's a very good way to go about it! Never thought of the 'goodwill' part.

Definitely help your case if theyve had their hands on it over the years. Plenty of stories of them giving large discounts on bodywork repairs.

Rusty tail gate/wings etc

Used to get that with my old Corrado all the time. The lack of dealer knowledge was a joke.

I can understand the dealer thinking R32s only existed from 06 because some folk forget about the MK4. Say MK4 Golf to a lot of people and they will come back with TDI or GTI. If you say R32, people tend to think of a MK5. I know I did before I bought my MK4.

If I was speaking to a garage and they didn't think my car existed, I would have just put the phone down.

Some one I know from work had VW telling him that the Mk5 Golf GT Sport 1.4L he'd just bought from them and was having issues with, didn't have both a turbo and a supercharger, and that it's not possible for any car to have this combination.

When mine went back to Warrington for gearbox/flywheel clunk problem they said there was nothing wrong with it as they had compared it to a 2.0 tdi tiguan

Just bought my MkIV and after going to one VW dealership and asking about the 6463 update they told me it didn't exist.. Rang another which also told me it didn't exist (Both saying there "Head" technicians didn't know anything) and after finally trying to convince them they rang a "Master" technician and finally come back saying it did. I'm getting the car remapped anyway but I was trying my luck to see if they would do it for free just so I have peace of mind. Wrote a complaint to VW UK wanting an answer on how these dealerships just didn't want to know and ended up having a rude lady tell me there was nothing they could do..
