Just a note to say ive now sold my MK5

Its been a rollercoaster ride since i bought it in November.

In hindsight even tho it was a good example I couldnt get over the amount of owners it had and it was eating at me everyday. Especially after a couple of curious px valuations got the 'would rather be run over by it than buy it' remarks. Even tho it is obviously a very well cared for car.

anyway a summary

2007 DBP, 3 door, cloth recaros, DSG

bought for 9.5K with 49k miles and 8 previous owners.

spent

450 on tyres
500 on major servicing
300 on new switches and seat cushions
300 on bodywork
300 on suspected flywheel problem removed and tested all ok

I didnt know if i should keep it or get rid, but the DSG wasnt right, it would bang down into second and first, suspect mechatronics.
there was an annoying vibration around 1k rpm and another at 1,5k rpm

both front flexi pipes have deteriorated, blowing quite badly.

after spending to so much I decieded to cut my losses.

cosmetically interior and exterior it is in A1 condition the paintwork really is better than new, and if it had fewer owners i would have spent a bit more getting the other problems sorted. but with a potential 475 tax disc in june, an average 22mpg over 7000miles and the fact it will always be marred by the amount of owners i decided enough is enough.

traded it in against an a3 cabriolet for the wife. px value of 8.7k, also traded her 2009 mini and got some money back

bought a 1996 polo 1.9d for now until i consider my next purchase.

if anyone is interested it is now at Parks in Ayr, 56k miles, and they offer a 12 month warrenty so im sure they will fix the exhaust and mechatronic unit. Its up for £10999.

lastly i would like to make a a public apology to cr51say, who i provisional sold the recaros too but had to pull out as parks knew it had them. Sorry i know you removed your seats and cleaned them etc.

Im sure I will be back, maybe with a Mk4 ;-)

It sounds as though you are happy with your decision. I inow you were getting bored with it.

Spotted you last Wednesday filling it up at Sainburys. I was behind you in a red Polo.

You also have to take into account the £1,850 he spent on it though.

Ahhh sorry to hear that fella... But yes, you do sound like you've got your head screwed on, and i suppose if you're not happy about the amount of owners and it bugs you, then you've gotta do what feels right.. Are you leaving the forum or will you still be sticking around?

Yes, but over such a short period of time it's the next owner that gets the benefit so it has to be taken into account.

sounds like you have had some troubles, if you believe you have made the right choice then fair play to you man, 8 owners would bug me too for a car that is 5 years old, something doesnt seem right about that, theres always the mk4 to move onto

i will definetly go for a manual in the future. The DSG is great but just too much worry with it in a 2007 car. its early technology. The biggest gripe tho is not being able to change from 4th to 2nd etc, missing gears.

No it isn't, DSG is £475. Went up from £460 in the budget.
