Hello people
I have had my steering wheel off today to recolour it, When refitting it and starting the car up i have the esp light and airbag light on.
Now I know the airbag needs a vag com reset but the esp light has stayed on, Am I correct in assuming it will recalibrate itself or could there be something more serious wrong ? when I initially pulled the wheel off I accidentally pulled the connector off with the ribbon inside it, nothing broke and I just recoiled it and re centred it, took it off and rechecked it wasn't damaged and everything went back together ok, could I have damaged something here ?

Paulie recommended a recolouring kit from the www.furnitureclinic.co.uk I did it once but didnt put enough of the gloss base on so the matt came off slightly, so I took it off today and redid it but a bit too much. it will do for the weekend and then I will get it spot on next time, when its right it will look like a brand new wheel, the kit was only £34.95

Cheers buddy
Yes I got it sorted thanks, nothing as drastic as this though, I took the steering wheel back off, parted the steering angle sensor then reset the cogs to neutral with the help of vagcom whilst the sensor was apart, when t is at 0 deg there is a yellow ident in the window so you know it is correct, Then before reconnecting the wheel I made sure I had the correct number of revolutions each way and it has not failed since, you need to be very careful with the steering angle sensor as apparently it can bring the brakes on if not set correctly as it is part of the ESP.

you can also check the degree of rotation on the wheel , it shows up in vagcom as you turn it so you can see from one lock to the other that it is correct as the values will be the same but opposed if you know what I mean, A + figure v A - figure
