Strange Noise....

Not all the time but some of the time when I go over a bump at various speed I get a thumb/clunk from the rear drivers side of the car. Tried all the usual things, loose stuff in the boot, don't think its the exhaust as its not loose as far as i can tell. Anyone got any ideas????

Ditto, I am getting this too and would love to know what it is.

Could it have anything to do with where the fuel filler is and the hose that leads into the fuel tank? Just a thought!
Ha, I was just about to post the same thing though my knocking / thump / clunk seems to be coming from the nr/side rear and mainly happens when turning right. What with the emissions warning light and service light just coming on as well it feels like my bank account is just about to get it's first true experience of owning a performance car :(
I have been getting the same thing on and off for a few months now, so would love to know what it might be!
i have the same thing...seems quite a common one
same here, i think its the backbox bouncing on the rubber mounts and hitting the bottom of the car?!
Joy, I thought the exhaust but it doesn't sound tinny enough and I gave mine a good shake. Tried standing on the door sill and bouncing the car, no noise other than a slight creek from the springs.....

Was beginning to think it may be the broken spring problem that some people have experienced, but my bit has flown off on the road as I did about 1500 miles over christmas and its only been doing it for the last few weeks......

When its in on the 26th for the coil overs I'll see if we can find whats causing it......
I have a Milltek back box but assuming its roughly the same size as the standard one then it seems reasonable enough to me!
Thread reserection.............

Suspension all done and run in all the noises are gone, so best guess is its been the top mounts which seem the most likely option or the lower rear tie bars, although they look in really good condition......
hmmm, not good. Hope mine doesn't sheer off, wasn't it V_C who found part of his spring on the driveway?

Could be an excuse to upgrade the suspension!
Sounds like a good excuse to me.

Which coilovers did you get?
Bilstien PSS9s, they are sweet as, takes me all of 10 minutes to swap from comfy soft to sports hard. Although they live on 5 front and rear so its ready for me having a mad moment down the country roads........
Back to the noise on the other cars. Could be rear anti-roll bar bushes or links.
i noticed this clunk today, scared me that it could be bearings/driveshaft? :S .......?
I have exactly the same noise on mine, its been in to vee dub once and they couldnt find anything but its back in next week hopefully with a good result....
I take it no-one has had any probs with this knocking,Mines started doing this,Mostly when i go over speed humps,Sometimes when going round a corner.
mine stopped doing it once I upgraded to coilovers
I have this also, could it be the shocks/springs???
sounds like the usual top mounts or more than likely the anti-rollbar drop links
