Anybody had problems with the treading of the sump plug?
My car in for service and they say when plug was undone some treads came out with it.
Main man there is going to re-thread the sump in morning and hopefully that sorts it
But! If not a new sump is £350!!!!
Hope re-threading works!

Anybody else can the same??

Sounds as if whoever changed the oil over tightened the sump plug. It's quite common as the sump is aluminium and many mechanics seem unable to use a torque wrench these days.

When you say re-thread, I assume they will be using a helicoil insert.

My sump plug thread has been butchered at some point and the plug is currently sealed in with some kind of sealant, I've booked the car in at the local VW specialist in a few weeks to see if they can remove the existing sump plug and helicoil the thread otherwise I'll be in the same boat of needing a new sump too

As these sumps are alloy , they are usually repairable . If removing the plug damages the boss beyond the reach of a helicoil, then a bit of work with a tig welder , a drill and a tap and the problem will be solved, at less than the cost of a new sump .
