The missus bought a new Mini Cooper SD Countryman a year or so back.

Its now due its first service.

She bought the optional 5 years (50k miles) free servicing plan with the car. Shes just texted to say shes booked in for the first oil / filter service and its £29 extra to health check the car and £15 to clean it,

Is it me or should a health check just be done as part of the service. Ive looked online and mini offer a free winter health check anyway (as do VW).

I found this online also from some random mini dealer

A 20 MINUTE MINI HEALTH CHECK COVERS THE BELOW:
  • All lights
  • Heat blower
  • Horn
  • Battery
  • Fluid levels including coolant, screen wash, steering and engine oil
  • Steering mobility
  • Brake Pads and Brake Discs
  • Wiper-blades
  • Tyre pressure and treads
  • Drivebelt
  • Exhaust

Experiences with BMW Mini. Thoughts? Id be inclined to say this should be part of a service! Its noddy stuff anyway!

Are they trying it on or is this normal practice?

I agree with you 100%, it should be part of the service.

No experience of BMW dealers, so can't comment if this is the norm or not.

Fluid levels, brakes and pads, tyre pressures, drivebelts, and exhaust are normally part of a normal inspection service.

Light, Horn and Steering are MOT checks, but can also be included in servicing.

Cleaning the car is also normally included in any work on the including services.

Seems a bit average to me....You pay for a service plan but actually it costs an extra £30 to £50 if you want it doing properly.

...Unscrew an oil filter and send it back out the door.

This is normal. My last car was a Jcw model and it was a pain in the arse. Everything is extra. Even when I lost the mot certificate they said they can't give me a copy even if I paid for it. They would have to test the whole car again. I took it to a specialist in the end
