Towbar Mk4 R

Mike,

I saw a Mk4 R32 in Aviemore with a proper factory look swankneck towbar, no idea where he got it from but it didn't come throught the bumper it came from underneath and had external electrics. I know VW say you can't fit a towbar to the car, but this one didn't look custom made.....oh, and it did looked detachable.

Wouldn't mind one myself.

I was lead to believe that a tow bar can't be fitted due to the rear silencer as it is right across the back, as the R32 shares the same floor plan as a V6 4mo it might be possible the R32 you saw had a tow bar from a 4mo fitted. The V6 4mo was voted tow car of the year by the Caravan Club a few years ago!!. Nowadays tow bars should be fitted by specialists, so it might be worth speaking to a couple to see what they think

Might have to see if the V6 4-mo one can be fitted. Might have to get a custom back box to clear it. Some research is required me thinks.
