Just driving home and went to overtake a lorry, popped it into 3rd and floored it and the car had a massive hesitation, it felt like when you hit the limiter, then it just carried on as normal, however now the EPC and traction control lights are on. The car feels fine, still pulls strong and smooth feels normal in the corners etc?

I'm thinking maybe MAF? Hope it's not related to haldex... Any ideas?

I had the exact same happen last year,

Was in the garage for 2 x days and they could not work it out, I posted on here and 3 x people said it was the MAF and it was.

So I would put my money on that

I hope that's all it is, makes sense to me... Foot down air in, MAF goes bang, car momentarily cut power co's it can't tell how much air is going in, then reverts back to it's saved settings and off you go with the TC and EPC lights on.

MAF was new this year... Possibly one of the draw backs of running a big cone filter?

i have had the EXACT same problem the last week or so

EPC+TCS light
scanned for faults and on the TCS/ABS it was just showing that there was a fault in the main engine ECU

Faults on the ECU were B1 S2 lambda probe and MAF
NOW the tricky bit is the maf is a WEEK old from TPS so unless i have been REALLY unlucky and got a goosed one i am as of yet unsure as it still pulls a healthy 165gms
have changed the O2 sensor and cleared the faults so will see what comes back

Mines been like this for ages now but with added bonus of the engine management light too! Ended up changing the ecu as tried changing maf/lamba/wiring and still no joy. The strange thing is when all the faults were cleared it ran like it was in limp mode, when all 3 lights came on it runs brilliant! It's still in the garage setting the new ecu up now...

Oh dear... EML came on this morning as well
Definitely MAF then the scan will say your Ecu is fucked just change the MAF and it will be fine

165 is a bit low. Normally 190+ g/s.

Cleaning MAF's doesn't really work, if they are knackered they're knackered.

There have been reports of people buying new MAF's and even the new one's being duff.

They CAN fail gradually over time without registering a single fault, you just end up loosing power.

I think thats what has happened to mine and mine must be 3 years old at least

Ok so I'm getting better MPG than normal?

Thinking if the MAF was knackered then the car would have reverted back to base line values for air flow and it won't be reading the increased flow (due to decats etc) and will be fuling according to that baseline value and then giving better MPG? as far as the EML perhaps this has upset the O2 sensors? Pre cat though as the ones in the decat pipe have been mapped out?

Yep, that is a classic sign of the MAF under reading because it has a coating of oil on it.

Yep, spray carb cleaner directly onto the MAF element, both sides of it.

I think you guys should watch Migthy Car Mods on YouTube. The "Cone filters: Myths busted" and "Cold air intakes: myths busted" videos in particular should be of interest
