I`m gonna have to put 4 new tyres on my beloved in the next couple of months, my first question is, do they all need to be changed at the same time? As I did hear that this needs to be done, and the other question is what is a good all round tyre?? I`m not so worried about ploughing through snow as I only use my R during civilised and dry weather!!

Sorry if this is repeating the subject yet again but I haven`t got a lot of time to go through old posts at the moment:embarassed:

Oh, I`ve got the OEM Mk4 wheels:driver:

Hi Kevin

I had a set the other year and I replaced my rear set end of last year and will do the front when needed

YES best to either do the front or rears in PAIRS due to the Haldex

Ps - I have Goodyear Asymetrics on mine btw and they are very good in the wet etc

Hi just put a set of Vredestien Ultrac Sessantas on mine.

ÂŁ350.00 for 4 inc vat and delivery from camskill. Plus ÂŁ40.00 for the local tyre fitters to put them on for me.

I havent really had chance to scrub them off yet so cant really give an honest opinion as to their handling wear rates etc.

When I was looking it came down to .....

Vreds: reasonable price, good reviews, good wet and dry grip, low road noise, reasonable wear rates some concerns that they have high rolling resistance which may reduce fuel economy. ÂŁ85.00 ish.

Toyos proxes R1s: reasonable price, mixed reviews (mostly good) good in wet and dry but some worries about fast wear rates and noise. ÂŁ89.00 ish.

Goodyear F1 asymetrics. Really imo about the best tyre available I have them on the RS and they deserve their reputation but not cheap. ÂŁ118.00 ish

The car had Continental Sport contact 2 on it and they were pretty good and seemed to be excellent in the snow too but again expensive at ÂŁ110.00 ish if they're still available.

I dont like Pirellis as they wear too fast, I found them poor in the wet and they're expensive, so they were out.

My tyre choice is down to a requirement for a good combination of these factors.
Must have good Grip in wet and dry.
Wear, I expect them to last at least 10,000 miles of normal use.
Low Noise.
Price. this has to be reasonable.

I went for the Vreds in the end to find out if they were as good as the reviews say because if they are then they would seem to be a bargain.

There are others on here with them on so search for other posts............

RichnotRich well done that man. I've just done the same as you !! Vreds All Round from Camskill. Mine came to ÂŁ460 (before ÂŁ40 fitting) but unfortunately I've got 19"s

Get either some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymettrics or some Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas.

You'll never look back again !! I've used both on 2 cars and they are both amazing, however the Vredesteins tend to be cheaper for no less performance so I favour them.

I bought my MK4 R32 2 months ago and the previous owner stupidly put on budget tyres. It was a nightmare to drive and lost grip at very slow speeds, was nothing short of dangerous in the wet and no fun at all.

Earlier this week I finally fitted 2 Vredesteins to the front of the car and the initial turn in, Steering response and grip has improved astonishingly!! I feel like I have a new car. Literally cornering speed has doubled. Last night I tried to see how much better these tyres really are. So I built up speed on a roundabout in the wet and was simply amazed at the new tyres......but I forgot I still have the budget tyres on the back of the car.

And OH DEAR when I got to a certain speed, the Vredesteins were not even beginning to understeer when the budgets on the back just totally let go and the car began to oversteer horribly into a 45 degree slide. Luckily I managed to catch it and the ESP obviously helped massively, needless to say I was extremely worried for my safety and the car and I have just ordered 2 more Vredesteins from Camskill !!! So I have a matching set of 4.

Budget tyres are an absolute deathtrap! Spend as much as you can on tyres.

Remember tyres are the only thing that stick you too the road !!

Rich, let me say now you're in for a treat

You sound like I did about 18months ago, unsure of what tyre to go for so I went for Vreds on my GT4 back in early 08, i then sold the car in November 09.

I ended up doing 15,000miles. including 2 trackdays and 10 laps of the nurburgring and when I sold the car the vreds still had 4mm all round. they are epic. better than GSD3's and I would say on par with asymettrics, possibly the smallest amount less grip in the wet, but its neglidgable.

These tyres are nothing short of amazing. At first I was scheptical because they are cheaper than a lot of other tyres, but you wait, once you wear them in they are excellent. Wait till summer comes round, they are truly amazing in the dry, and also brilliant in the wet.

You made the right decision. As my post above says, I had a hairy moment with my budgets last night, so I've now ordered the other 2 vreds and waiting delivery from camskill tomorrow morning. Can't wait to get the last 2 fitted on the rear and start to enjoy my R like it should be. Gonna try and wear the tyres in a bit at the weekend.

I had no hesitation in buying these tyres for a second time and I bet they will be just as good this time round :D

.........As for yokohama parada spec 2's mentioned above, obvioulsy its each to their own opinion, but I have found them awful. In the wet truly shocking, but ok in the dry. they are what I changed for the vredesteins on my GT4 and I felt like I could run rings around myself!
