I'm currently living in Canada and have my R with me, to get it on the road I need DRL's.
After speaking to a VW tech over here today he said I may just be able to turn the function on through Vagcom/VCDS, not sure which one.
What I'm after is an answer as to wether the UK ECU has the functionality or if I will have to wire in a separate relay and do it that way.
Anyone that knows or has Vagcom and could find out your help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't see from your pic if its mk4 or 5 I know about 5 but not 4

well the only bit of advice i can give you i'm afraid is for the mk5 but might apply for the 4, the xenon's can be turned on as drls, eg there on all the time, no back lights no side lights just the xenon's this might be possible in the mk4 but i dont have access to one to check

Dbp, 3door, full or half leather, highline clocks. Maybe some normal mods milltek etc. was looking at these drls to fit. Trying to find a rns510 to fit aswell but needs to be from a touareg.

Steff my mate has a unit that connects to the - and + sides of the battery, one to the main beam + and one to the side liight+ then one wire goes round to the other main beam +

The controller activates as soon as it detects the engine had been started by voltage increase
in turn it switched on the MAIN BEAM and runs them at 20% power as not to blind other drivers

if you switch on side lights the main beam goes out and if you switch the headlamps to dipped beam it also turns the DRL function off
main beam the works as normal

If you want i can get a couple of these through him as i know they work as i fitted his and will be quite cheep at the same time

There is a genuine kit available to do this, part number; 1J0998055A
I managed to get one from VW Teeside.
I'll update this once received with what sort of job it is to fit.

Can you chose what lights you use as DRL's? I've been pestering James for VCDS procedures but they where for mk5.

Eh? How can HID lamps be "dimmed"?. I'll be interested to hear your results.

I believe you can wire it into any light of your choice. The way it is intended is for the side lights I think, you can add lights and wire them in as DRL's too.

Gonna look at using twindicators and/or US spec markers

I have ordered a 'auto lights' on/off module for mine. This hopefully will work in the normal way for tunnels and low light etc.

I don't think HIDs can be dimmed unless you start messing with ballasts but I may be wrong.

Sidelights don't have enough output to counter normal daylight IMO.
