VW Sat Nav

Has anyone actually managed to find a location using the VW sat nav? Currently got one installed in my new R32. Picked it up from the dealers last friday and thought i'd try it out on the way home - for a normal 10 mile journey the nav thought i'd be better going down the M6 for a nice run and then cut back up a dual carriageway back to my house all in all a 25 mile journey (hmm is this some special trick to allow you to exploit the full power of the R32 on fast roads :D). Any way tried to live with it for a week but have decided it needs to come out and be replaced with a nice shiny aftermarket unit. Currently undecided between Pioneer Avic D3, Kenwood 7200 or maybe even an Alpine set up but the Alpine becomes a bit more complicated as the Nav unit is seperate from the screen. Any one got any experiences on any of the above ? All advice greatly appreciated !

have you had a look in the settings mate? you can set them to avoid motor ways or avoid B roads and stuff like that. maybe the previous owner set it up funny. if you do decide to sell drop me a pm, i may be interested

thanks. rob
Hi...is this the new VW Navi RNS 510? I Have specced on for my R32 but have not received the car yet so cant really help there but....in my GTI i did have a kenwood DNX 7200 i must say its a great piece of kit, at 1500 it does not come cheap compared to other units. The navigation features are great and so is the ipod functions. Connect your ipod via the ipod adapter and on the unit u can browse through all your songs and even watch videos saved on your ipod. Here are a few pics :)

Any other info u need, i could try and help...and oh yeah the remote also works well compared to other units i have had xD

Having lived in Gib it is almost impossible to get lost here...but like Spain is quite big and it has come very very useful at times....best feature about it for me is things like restaurants, hotels, etc it displays their full adress and telephone number...:)

I have been thinking about this one for a couple of months now and just put my deposit down today on the Alpine set up and having it fitted on Friday by LM Audio (Check the spomnsor section on this forum or send Lee a PM) I was going for the Pioneer but heard that the Nav unit is much better on the Alpine. The seperate Nav unit sits hidden away and is straight forward once you have spokeen to Lee and he's explained it. Slightly cheaper than the Pioneer and Kenwood too. I also belive there are others on here who have also opted for the Alpine, pomme being one of them.
Nice,

you having anything else put in or just the head unit + nav?
iPod and Bluetooth. I'm going to have my Parrot removed and run my phone through the HU. Is that the way you run yours? and is this the unit you have fitted?
I have the Alpine W202R with the add on nav, bluetooth etc.

So yea, run everything off the head unit.
All very nice, but as an old cheapskate I'll stick with the TomTom 720 for now. The lad's off to a meet in MK today, guess what he's borrowing the TomTom.

How well does the phone work through the touch screen? I don't want to rip the Parrot out if it's not as good. Have you got yours all working through the S wheel too?
Its ok, I find it easier to do it through the phone though.

It's just quicker to go into your phonebook on the phone and bring a name up than it is to scroll through a list of names on the head unit.

Don't have it hooked up to the steering wheel as the bit of kit hadn't been released by Alpine yet when I got mine done. Just need to pop in to LM to get it finished but have been lazy.
Bloody lazy as you only use to live down the road!! Voice recognition on the W202R?
Very very lazy. Hopefully get it done in the next couple of weeks though as I'll be in Herts from the 1st.

I don't think it does, and if it does I don't use it anyways.
Do you know Lee has got the kit to Map I & II the MkV and gonna start soon. PS whats the BMC panel filter?
What do you mean by that?

A panel filter is the filter in the standard airbox, the BMC one is a lot better quality and more free flowing, better throttle response at higher revs (supposedly).
