Hi,well i thought I had stopped my mk4 raining in......
I have stripped out the drivers side carpet/sound deadening to find water dripping down around the bonnet handle area. Scuttle panel removal showed the bonnet cable gronnet in good condition and the wiring harness boot was removed and resealed but still raining in. No leaves/blockages in scuttle etc.
Sunroof nipple has been squeezed etc,any more ideas?

Right my friend, this will 100% solve your problem.
if you look inside your scuttle panel drivers side, you will see a black rectangular cover that the auxiliary fuse box loom goes through, it comes up from the fusebox and along to the battery. there are 2 10mm captive nuts holding this down, one either side, the seal underneath it has failed, you can get new seal from vw that looks like licorice, take the scuttle panel off then to do it properely you need to remove the wiper motor so you can get the top cover out of the way when you undo the 2 10mm captive nuts, the fuse box is directly underneath, you can disconnect the wires as they are on connectors. do yourself a favour and take it out of the way as you will end up doing it again abd because it is such a job it is worth doing right.

I certainly have not had a new screen but am not sure about its past. Having had it about 18 months I tend to think its not that but am struggling.
I will try a push a length of wire down sunroof pipe tomorrow and see if it comes out of nipple ok but im not sure sunroof problems would cause a leak by bonnet catch?
It is certainly not doing my fuse box anygood!!

Hi daz, thanks for all that. Yes removed completly, wires unplugged etc and sealed with silicone but its made no difference! I would have gambled that would have stopped it but doesnt seem like it. I would have probably done better with a new seal than silicone though!

Good luck with it, i tried resealing the above cover, it still came in there, i had to dismantle it and get a new seal from vw, only you know how thorough you have been, be careful poking stuff down sunroof drains, you don't want to puncture it.

Arr so you tried the silicone method and it failed then? Maybe I need to get a new seal if thats the case. I saw the seal on the plastic lid and it was as flat as a pancake and definatly not doing anything. I did not know you could just but the seal. Do u have part number by any chance? I broke scuttle panel getting it off so could ordeal seal as well if its better than silicone.

Well it seems like I can see where leak is coming from...what a bas....
Rain is running down drivers door glass into door void as it should. Instead of dropping to the bottom of the door and going out of the drain holes its dropping onto the wiring harness in the door and following cables through door rubber to A post joint. From there its still following the wires until they reach a plug by the bonnet catch...where the water is collecting.
Metal door card needs fetching off really to re route cables/re clip cables away from direct dribbles but I am going to try a tight cable tie around them to try and make water drop off in the door where its supposed to be. Anything is better than getting that poxy card off...again...
