Hi all

I have a 55 plate Mk5 Golf R32 with DSG and have recently noticed a weird issue that I'll do my best to describe and then hope that someone on here can offer some advice!

Latley when driving, if I am cruising to a stop, either by applying the brakes or just lifting off the gas, just as I am about to come to a stop, I notice a high pitched noise from the passenger side. If I do stop then move off again the noise comes back till I get up to speed.

The only way I can describe the noise is by saying its like a deeper, louder noise similar to when you run your finger round a wine glass....hope that makes sense!

Grateful for any advice offered.

Thanks.

Possibly a stone stuck between the disc and the backing plate.

I've had a stone caught in the disc a couple of times now. I find stopping and reversing a few feet causes the stone to fall out.

I Seem to have my brakes squeak when apply the brakes very lightly, i thought at first it saw either a stone or needed new brakes, turns out it wasn;t either, still don't know what it is to this day....and yes it still does it. Maybe i'm not driving it enough.

Thanks for all the advice guys....have a suspicion it might be rust on the discs, tho not ruling out the stone. Gonna take it to a garage tomorrow to get their opinions.
Just glad to hear it doesn't sound like it's serious!

You do get a build up of rust on the discs if the car is not used for a couple of days but after a few stops it's normally rubbed off leaving a nice shiny disc. apart from the bits the pads don't touch.

The rust shouldn't cause that type of noise anyway, it would be a low gritty sound but as Bob says, it only takes a few applications of the brakes to scrub it off.
