came back to the car today after a morning of torrential rain and found water on the front of drivers seat and floor also the roof lining behind the drivers sun visor is wet and the glass in the visor also had water holdup.
anyone had similiar problems or any ideas.
it's pouring down at the minute can't see any leaks.
thanks.

If the car has a sunroof check that the drain tubes are not blocked.

Mk4s suffer from water leaks through the pollen filter housing or the door seals although that wouldn't explain the dampness behind the visor.

If it is a Mk5 then I'm not aware of any weaknesses that cause leaking, other than sunroof drainage tubes.

cheers for reply the car has a sunroof and is five door owned for 6 months first time this has happened and it's a mk4.
Sunroof drainage tubes are the first thing to check then. If you open the sunroof you will see the hole at each corner and if you open the front doors and look between the hinges you will see where they exit. The rears exit inside the rear wheel arch.

as stated above likely culprits are either blocked sunroof drainage holes, the pipes or the rubber bungs in the pillar that release the gunk. in my case it was likely a combination of the last two that led to a flooding of the passenger front footwell after some heavy rain

first i checked the holes and then squeezed the black rubber bungs in the door pillar. you cant miss them. they have a slit in the bottom and should in any case be squeezed regularly to allow the gunk to escape as it has a tendency to back up.

suggest you follow these steps and then finally warm up some water and then poor it down the drainage holds and then squeeze the bung so you can check that the water is passing through ok

its quite well documented on this site and others as well if you need more inf

Had a similar problem with mine after a few days in the rain. Drivers side footwell and front pillar trim are soaked.

Cleaned out drain tubes from sunroof and alot of gunk came out then flushed through sucessfully I think..
Not sure on rear drain tubes that have been mentioned though, couldnt see much under the rear arches?

Have found a brown tube behind the boot trim by the rear drivers side light but no run off came out when I flushed the sunroof channels again..

Any advice would be appreciated !
