Does anyone know what the purpose of this bracket is?

Good question I did wonder this as well. I just assume it was part of the engine mount or something?

I wonder if its some kind of counter balance or something, or used to lift the block out of the bay? Looked on my 2.8 and its the same.

Thats what we thought, just there to help get the engine out.

But I just want to make sure it's not needed or there to balance something else out.

Thete is no engine manufacturer warranty other than the 3yr / 60k miles. VW can, at their discretion,, offer goodwill after this period.

Anti-Perforation warranty is 12 years, not 10 years.
