Hi Guys
My front tyres are scrubbing off on the inside shoulder 3-3-0 at both sides
The tracking has been checked and re checked so I'm thinking of having the full 4 wheel alignment done but Crawley VW want £200
Is it worth it?
Can I get it done elsewhere?
Does anyone know a good place in West Sussex?
Cheers

Any decent garage should be able to do a 4 wheel setup but £200 sounds a lot

Yes it is definitely worth doing it, any decent garage with the equipment to do a digital 4 wheel alignment would be best as it shows the alignment exactly and allows it to be adjusted back to within the specific tolerances at each corner. It should sort out any tyre wear issues you may have.

£200 seems very steep I paid £50 to get mine done when I put new tyres on.

Thanks Guys
VW recon it's a 2hr job but I reckon more like 45mins to an hour
I think there are only 3 adjustments, on the Mk5, I don't think you can adjust the camber unless you know different
I'll take it to STS in East Grinstead £40 for checking and first adjustment and £20 for each extra adjustment
To be honest price was so high I thought they were talking about a different thing altogether, no doubt it is 'added value' to the service cost. There was a long list of things that were recommended even though they were done and recorded in the service book. Apparently they couldn't see them

Bloody labour charges are horrendous with the stealers. They quoted me £400 just for the labour to change the front shocks!!

As a tech for VW myself the system they use is charged at £200 and is the VAS Beisbarth VW System. Its computer aligned with a camera on each wheel, and set up including adjustments really is about 2 hours worth of labour. Its a fantastic piece of equipment but people are always put off the cost. There ar companies out there with the same sort of equipment such as 'Hunter', and they charge over £100 as its the same process and long winded set up that adds to the labour.

I'll be getting mine on there, but obviously won't be paying that much!

Try Caffyns VW in Haywards Heath (01444 451511), ask for Gareth on the service desk, they charge £140. Had mine done there, they changed castor, camber and toe on both the front and rear and provide a before and after print-out. The difference is marked, the car feels like new. I know VW are expensive, but I have had top quality service from this garage for the last two years and they get a few R32s through the workshop so they know what they're doing.

FINESINGLEMALT I've spoken to Gareth and he sends his regards. They want it all day so I'm trying to sort out a time and I'll get a couple of tyres on first as well
If your local, do you know QST on Bridge Road?
Personally I go to Owen Garage usually

QST have turbocharged a Mk5 R32 - interesting article worth a read (sorry for digressing!)
