Oh my gosh is it me or are some youths today getting thicker??? Got a kid in the shop from the local school and I said can you post this letter in the post box a cross the road for me. so that's a 30 sec job. 10 mins later he is back saying he can't find it? I took him outside and pointed at it and said its over there. He said what the red one? I've told him to use a tape gun and tape up some boxes. Some how there's brown tape all over the place but the boxes. Even tried to get the kid to polish up some displays and he couldn't work out what I asked him to do. I don't envy the youth of today. I'm tempted to send him out for tartan paint and a long wait but I'm told you can't do that anymore?

Few years back I was asked if chap still at school could shadow me for his weeks work experience.
He came to my workshop along with his Mum and we chatted for a good two hours on what work was involved etc(Antique Furniture Restoration).
He was really excited and showed real enthusiasm, even helping me out while we chatted.

I filled in folders full of forms, had visits from school to asses safety etc.

He rang me a few days before to ask what time he needed to start etc and not one for early starts I said to him 9 am is fine.

Monday morning,no sign at 10 am so rings him up,Mothers answers the phone to tell me he's still in bed.....and he didn't arrive the next day.

I remember my first job as an apprentice was to pick out the white gloss paint that was embedded in the the grain of a C17th Oak joint stool with a knitting needle.
Took me nearly all week (along with sweeping up,making tea and fetching the sarnies!)to complete but the Boss then new I had the patience, will power etc not to be beaten.

When I was at school I did my work experience with a bank. The manager told me to get £20 out the till for lunch, I laughed and thought it was a joke or test.

I agree with the tartain paint/left-handed hammer idea!
That, or just send him home. You could always let him work from home doing "internet research" lol

Just sent him out with the trainee to get tartan paint, glass hammer and a long wait. The shop said someone is having a joke on you. So they weren't happy. But I've convinced the work experience its real stuff and I've sent him out again. What a dumb shit!!!

I work in software development. At a previous company i had one of the clients sons in for work experience as a favour to them. It was one of those tricky situations where id try and invent something semi useful for him to do and spent time explaining something, went away, came back in and he'd found a box of paperclips, linked them all togther and was wearing them around his neck!

...thought im wasting my time here lol!

You could have just asked him to show you how to spell "experience":)

I had a young guy for a week at one company I worked for back in the late 90s and he was a right arrogant little twunt. Last I heard of him he was an economic policy advisor for the government. Says it all really:)
