Hi Guys.

So there are loads of kits available for super-charging the R32 engine, how about my R36? I know its possible. Storm Developments supercharged an R36 engine and put it into a TT, and at GTi Inters 2010 I saw a mk4 Golf with R36 engine + supercharger in it on the KW stand.

Storm Developments are not interested in helping me, and the guys on the KW stand said the car was a customer car and knew nothing else about it.

So, question is... Any reputable companies that would be seriously interested in quoting me to supercharge my car? I can't see it being so difficult to supercharge the 3.6 VR6 over the 3.2 VR6 in what is essentially a larger version of the Mk5 R32. The R36 uses the same DSG box, same Haldex 4wd system - heck it even has the same brake setup.

Cheers,

yep that was the Venom mk4 ;) Tim from the Phirm used to drive it past me every morning going to work as they were bedding it in....was funny having two mk4 3.6's pass on the road...not the most common sight lol
what you will find is that Storm will remove the FSI and run a standard fuel rail and a short runner manifold with fuel reg etc and an ME7 ecu....the reason Storm don't want to do it is because they would not be able to program the MED9 ecu....hence them trying to fanny around with their own throttle controller etc ;)

Well cheers everyone.

The Phirm have quoted on a Stage1 and Stage2 option. Stage1 would run at 6-7psi running just over 400bhp, while stage2 would run 11psi and just over 500bhp.

It'd require a lot of custom fabrication, so they would need the car for around 6 weeks.

Very seriously considering this, I just need to get the cash together...

just found such article through Google. Since there was almost a year past, how is your R36 going? Did you finish the supercharge in the end?

I recently bought R36 and do be interested in supercharger. We have very similar question, since all the surcharger for R32 and TT 3.2, why none for R36 which is also a very charming one.

im afraid slapbladder is no longer on this forum anymore, but i can tell you he has turbo'd his 3.6 mk4

the other mk4 with the r36 engine is rotrex supercharged and i see it almost everyday at the phirm.

your best bet is to give the guys at the phirm a call.

trd developments in gloucestershire are a tuning place near me, rolling road and then design and build theyr own kits - supercharge and turbo. they have a drive in drive out supercharger for a mk4 coming up for about 4k all in. they also have one for the mk5... well worth giving them a go.

The RUF Set up.
In theory I do not feel that you are getting the full potential power via that Shaft across the front of that Inlet.
Thats just my opinion.

they have the option already. nothing changed here. and i dont see the positive aspect of a charger monted next to the manifold and heatet up with oil. if i want a oil cooled charger, i simply go turbocharge it.

The fact its carbon fibre is irrelevant, its the fact your trying to transfer traction and rotational movement along a foot long shaft.

Unfortunately although RUF internals have been updated and improved over the years the general design and size hasn't.

A lot easier to find space for something Vf/Rotrex sized.

Afraid I have not seen no option here in the UK as of yet.
(Custom Bracket for the 5 or 36.)

And in regards to a charger mounted next to Mani and heated up with oil, its simple physics as commented above in regards to the RUF.
As I said it was just my opinion. No offence mate.

it dont bothers that ruf did not changed the size. i never had problems fitting it somewhere.

driveshaft never was the problem either. carbon fiber is 10 times more lightweight than the alloy shaft,

so it is an improvement in rotating weight. compare mk4 to mk5. there is no difference in power.

mjvr6. there are allot of options. r36 will be released next week. what mk5 engine are we talking at?

if i go buy a mk5 i simply buy a tfsi engine. if we talking about the r32 mk5. those kits are on the marked for 7 years now

No what im saying is, it's design dictates where it has to go. Because of this on the mk 5 platform you have to run the driveshaft.

Driven power has no real relation to the weight of the shaft, un-sprung weight yes but your not fussed as to how quickly the charger can spool from stand still.

And the new r36 coming out wasn't the first r36, theres a Passat based on the mk 5 platform that we have in the UK.

i can put it in the passengers side, too. but the kit already exists, so why should i build a new kit? makes no sense. just costs for the customer.

did i say it was the first r36 coming out? no! so whats your problem? its the first ruf supercharger and its a plug n play kit. never seen another kit before somewhere. our customers can make the build by their own like all other kits by ruf superchargers. we don't have to proof which kit is the best or the first. ruf has a history and the quality standards are german/swiss. nothing to compare with some us stuff.

i dont know why you make such a deal out of it. i just want to show that there is a resolution for customers to beef up their r36 if they want. and they can do the install by their own. not like most other companys needs the car to install it by their own.

Well said Christian

I can prove beyond all doubt that the quality of these RUF chargers are brilliant because I have been running one since 2014 that was fitted in Germany with the help of Christian at Carlicious , it's currently making 440 bhp at goes off the clock when you have the opportunity.

My car can been seen regularly at the Kent R32 OC at Bluewater.

Frosty
