Can someone provide and idiots guide to the difference between Gen 1 Gen 2 Xenons?

Someone will be along to correct me if I am wrong but I believe Gen 1 has the ballast located external to the light assembly whereas Gen 2 has it located within the light assembly.
VW Scirocco GT (170), Rising Blue, 19" Black Lugano Style Pack, Leather, Panoramic Roof, Dynaudio, DAB, Xenons, Cruise, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors, Folding Mirrors, Winter Pack, Badge Deletion

Think it was 2003 mate.

Many thanks. So when did the MKIVs swap from Gen 1 to Gen 2?


I'm pretty sure all MK4 R32 used gen2 lights ,

So the changeover has to be anytime well before Dec 2002

A lot of little changes were made from 2000 onwards to MK4 range so maybe it was around 2000 the lights also got updated

Oh cool didn't know that ! Mine was a march 2003 car , it has gen2 lights
