Guys - anyone here know if the left side mirror can automatically go down when put in reverse. Ive tried leaving the adjuster in the 'L' position and does not seem to work. Its a mk5 R btw. Thanks

This function is a cost option and is part of the Lux pack 1 or Lux pack 2. Lux pack 2 incorporates an auto dimming driver mirror, whereas Lux pack 1 does not.

No Luxie, no dipping!

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Lux pack 1 - R32 specific:
Elec folding door mirrors, reverse activated kerb-view adjustment on passenger's door mirror and rear reading lights

Lux pack 2 - R32 specific:
As above, but also includes auto dimming drivers door mirror.

Also (apologies) reverse activated kerb-view mirrors came with the rear parking distance sensors cost option.

This makes my last comment not 100% accurate.

It should read:

No Luxie/Parkie - no Dippie :)

So Knobby, you should have rear parking distance sensors or folding mirrors correct?

I've got parking sensors but I haven't got Folder mirrors, well not that I know of, how do i activate them?

It's late, I don't think I have explained it very well lol

Either Lux 1 or Lux 2 or Parking Distance have the dipping mirror function. So you could have any one of these 3 options.

Trying to work it out by elimination...

You say you have parking sensors and have not stumbled across the folding mirror function... it sounds like you have the Parking Distance Sensor option and not a Lux pack.

Folding mirrors work via a separate position on the wing mirror control toggle. Around the top next to the heated mirror position.

:)

To activate the mirror place the car in reverse, select the left mirror and adjust to the position you want when reversing.

Next place the vehicle in drive and away you go, the mirror will level to the original position when you move off after a few yards.

If you leave the switch on the left mirror when you engage reverse it will dip into the position you set originally.

Hope this helps, basically to select it you have to leave the switch on the left mirror of you put the heated mirrors on remember to turn it back to the left mirror when reversing.

Ez.

Where it gets even more confusing is that there were 2 options for parking sensors, factory fit and dealer fit. The latter doesn't have the dip function, but the former does!
This is a very good point, which I completely forgot to mention.
I was only talking about factory fitted options, not dealer fit ones. Cheers for for the addendum :top:

Hmm very confusing...how would i know if i have lux 1 or lux 2 or any of them? ive got heated function or side mirrors and auto dim of the rear view mirror.

However, Ezmuzic I have not tried activating in the way you have mentioned, but im sure on several occassions when parking, i put in reverse, switch to L, adjust - and the drive off, sometime later when i look in my left mirror i get a unusal view of the tarmac, so not sure if i need to ask VW

If your mirrors fold you have one of the lux packs.

If the above AND your drivers WING mirror dims like your rear view, you have Lux 2. If it does not dim, you have Lux 1.

If it does not fold at all, you do not have a lux pack.

If you have parking distance sensors and your passenger mirror dips on reverse when you do what ezmusic said, you have factory fitted parking distance sensors. If it does not dip, you have dealer fitted parking distance sensors.

If you have parking distance sensors and your mirrors fold, but do not dip, you have something wrong! Lol

Hope this helps :)

I have auto dim mirrors- heated seats - auto headlight etc (i think all Rs have)
On a manual.... what pack do I have?

Fella, from what you have told me, it doesn't sound like you have any of the packs mentioned here fitted, unless you have rear parking distance sensors.

However, do not despair mate, you still have one hell of a car :)
