I want to say a big thankyou to Tim and all the guys at The Phirm. I drove down from North Wales to upgrade to the UM software and UM Haldex software onto the R, after fitting my Schrick 268/264 camshafts. Previously the car was running the CC VVT attack software.
They kindly sorted out my timing mishap (I missed a link/barrel) and applied the software update. Suffice to say I had a fantastic drive up back home, and had to take the scenic route, testing the WOT shifting and Haldex response on some of Snowdonia's finest twisties
The new software was also accompanied with a Fluidampr, new 034 track density mounts , H&R arb's and Luicfers sports cat system (so perhaps slightly biased...)
To compare, the MAF is logging 223 g/s. Previous setup was logging 197 g/s. It feels much stronger from WOT at 2k rpm + and really wakes up at 4.5k. Pulls clean to 7k. Partial throttle is greatly improved . I've lost a slight amount of grunt below 2k at WOT, nothing to cry about, but to be expected. WOT shifting, or flat " shifting" and the new LCS is just comical...I'm such a kid. Takes getting used to with a manual (expect to toast your clutch practicing to perfection). I have three mile long tunnels to and from work (70mph), I love to wake up the morning commuters
The ARB and Haldex upgrade make for a very confident feel and better traction on launch. The turn in is greatly improved, but the rear end will brake traction noticeably in 1st and 2nd (damp) (with TCS disabled) - be warned. Gravel / Forest trails make for great WRC hero action! Definitely reccomened to accompany the TT hubs!
The Phirm we're amazing. Really easy to deal with in email / phone. A lovely team of wizards work there. They know their sh@t about the VR6 platform..and pretty much anything VAG (and more probably) They are really friendly and down to earth. I could of stayed all day to chat. It was a pleasure dealing with them, exactly what I wanted. I would recommend you give them a shout!
