Timing chain rant :-(

Just want to have a little rant!

See if any of you get my drift.. volkswargen dont seem to understand!

i have a mk5 r32 which i must say is the best car i have owned.

Soon after i parted with my hard earnt cash, my r developed a rattle on the timing chain area. On the off chance called in to my leeds branch, who kindly had a quick look and said timing chain but come back if it gets worse... So 4 month in to the ownership popped back in for it booking in. Car went in garage, then could not hear the noise. All my mates in the trade could including myself... A few of u notice at the last local meet.

So leeds vw wanted nothing to do with it so i called vw customer service they aranged for it to go to wakefield vw.. In it went stripped down and they have said yes timing chain...

On to the warrenty seen as i have 6 month left on it ... Due to the cost it has to be approved fair enough i thought! The garage forwarded the info on to vw approved warrenty they had 48 hours to make a decision, on the 48th hour they requested photo's of the car and the job sheet (tuesday) thursday before they get back in touch to the garage asking for photos of my old timing chain next to a new timing chain plus measurments. Ordered parts in and photos have been sent back today (tuesday morning) not heard nothing as of yet, hopefully tomorrow but they seen to be very slow at making the decision.
On to my point vw dont seem to get!!

my car has developed a mechanical fault.
car is under warrenty
the car needs new chain and rebuilding.

I was under the impression when a cars under warrenty it gets sorted free of charge.
So why have they been making a decision to stand the cost for over a week now. and as of yet still not reached a decision.

Is it just me that thinks they are the ones that sould stand the cost of the repair?

so my car has been sat on a ramp for over a week in a million pieces. while vw umm and arr about standing the cost. While i drive around in the works trusty Fiat van

Rant over sorry

In my experiance, they will be without doubt arguing between themselves as to what percentage of the cost the dealer should be paying VW towards the repair.

Shower of bar stewards, so frustrating for you mate, this has been covered on here loads, and seems to be a issue they keep under wraps and will fight with you about the % they want you to pay, if i was you i would get solicitors involved and see if you can ruffle their feathers a bit.

If they are stripping the car down to measure both new and old chains then surely they'll cover it!

My RS was with Audi 2 months waiting for a new roof, I had a decent courtesy car, given a meal out with wine and have been offered four figure compensation!

It's due back in at Audi next week for the new made roof which will cost just short of ÂŁ5k fitted!!!
No doubt Mrs Mc will be given flowers too! She's had them each time we bought a car.

Just shows you the difference between dealers!

Got to say having owned a Mk4 R32 and an Audi S3, Audi's customer service is leaps and bounds ahead of Volkswagen's. Audi cannot do enough for you whereas Volkswagen (well you may as well be at a Ford dealership!!) just my opinion of course.

To be fair to the dealer Wakefield vw they are very good at keeping me informed on the situation ! But as for the warranty instead of asking for photos ever 2 days why not ask for them all at once ! Just hope this gets sorted soon I want my r back on the road :-(

little update vw warrenty have eventually offered to stand the cost of the strip down / parts/ rebuilt ... but have said they will not pay for the chains as in there eyes have not stretched enough to warrent been changed /-) . so i have requested the garage to fit new at a cost of 200 quid no point putting the old chains back in ... plus while the work is been done was adviced to change the clutch + fly wheel at a cost of 800 quid ... all in all a nice little bill for crimbo....

finally the rebuild begins
