It isn't that rare a problem. Unfortunately the fix isn't easy as the rear spoiler needs to be removed to get at it. To remove the spoiler the dealer uses something like a cheese wire and then has to rebond it back on when it's fixed.
I've seen a few people say that the dealer has made a bit of a hash of the rebonding and paintwork so choose your dealer carefully.
My MK5 GTI has just developed a problem with the 3rd Brake Light, which has just stopped working. I could n't believe that VW wanted to charge in the region of ÂŁ400 to complete the job.
I purchased a replacement LED light from VW yesterday for ÂŁ39 and have fitted it today, by following the method below. Light is now working fine and no damage to the car, what so ever, so I am really pleased. In total, it took me 25 minutes to complete. Excellent saving on VW's costs.
WOW I never fix anything I normally just make things worse......
I have just fixed my brake light.
