Hi Everyone,
Fairly new to this club, got my 3dr Silver mk4 about 8 weeks ago and lovingit everyday...:~}

BUT,... I have a whistling noise coming from the exhaust..

When I'm driving along (more noticable at motorway speeds) and lift off the throttle I immediately hear a faint but clear "hissing" whistle from the exhaust. It's definately coming from the exhaust as when you then coast in neutral and gently tap the throttle it goes... then once you have stopped tapping the throttle it returns...

As anyone ever had this?

Any commenst would ber very much appreciated...
Thanks

Mat.

Hi Mat, it sounds like a vacuum pipe has come off ie on the exhaust flapper? See here http://www.r32oc.com/performance-technical/481-flapper-mod-photo-guide.html sorry the photo's have been removed? You can either re-attached the pipe back onto the control valve or plug it using a screw then tie it up somewhere safe? It sounds much louder when disconnected tho' I hope this helps? Good luck! :top:

Ps. I reckon you have a turbo'd R?

Mat, Just make sure if you do "The flapper mod", That you do put TWO screws in place,

One in the pipe and the other in the motor / valve end.

It sounds very nice once done.

I dont think that VC is on here any more , But shame that he has removed the photos though.

Thanks Guys, much appreciated..
I haven't done this or any mods on the cra, I've only just noticed the hissing noise and wondered what it was... At first I thought "Is it the rear diff whining ... and then obviously started worrying)

I'll check out the exhaust and see f it has been done or not... What exactly should I see on the exhasut if it has been done????

Thanks again..
Mat

Mat sorry But welcome

You should see that a pipe and the flap should have a screw or have been blocked up think its located on the LHS of the exhaust.

Nice one, thanks.

How about this for another weird noise,... should of put it my first post.

When I get home and park up, I can hear a "BUBBLING" :hmmmm2: noise coming from below the fuel flap. Literally sounds like a tiny but constant bubbling that sems to go on.

Any ideas....? If not then can you let me know and I'll start another post. cheers.

I made a BAD mistake (doughnut) :frown: when buying the car, just got acrried away with the whole thing and didn't check it out properly... Like the fact that it had a monster bloody great big evo induction kit on it (which my insurance won't touch so now have it my boot... :stupido2:

Thanks for your reply guys. The bubbling noise is on the drivers side literally just below the fuel flap... It has to be the fuel but why on would it be bubbling??? I can't think of mods you could do to the fuel tank...

Sounds to me like the fuel tank breather. The tank needs to breath or a vacuum forms. Do you get a rush of air when you remove the cap? I'm not sure if it's incorporated into the filler cap or if its a separate pipe and valve in that area. This could affect performance and be linked to your other noise?
